Furcifer minor (Lesser Chameleon) - 9”x13”
The Lesser chameleon (Furcifer minor) is found in a dry, arboreal habitat in a very small area of central Madagascar. The colorful specimen represented here is actually the female of the species! Males are quite drab, but notable for a large rostral protuberance on the end of its snout. Males reach a maximum of 24cm (9.4in), while females are quite a bit smaller at only 16cm (6.3in). Threats to this species include habitat destruction due to quartz and tourmaline mining as well as export for the pet trade. In 1994 trade of this species was banned after it was discovered that over 1200 had been exported for sale on the Western pet market. A portion of the proceeds from this piece will go to Planet Madagascar to support their efforts in preserving wildlife habitat on this incredible island. This piece is stitched onto wild-caught Alaska salmon leather that I hand-tanned dyed with marigold flowers.
This piece is displayed in a hand built solid wood frame. Glazing is museum quality anti-glare and UV-resistant glass.
Please note: The shipping is set at $50 and is an estimate. If additional shipping fees are required, they will be billed separately.
