**This piece is currently at 2 Street Gallery in Fairbanks AK - Please contact them at (907) 455-4070 to purchase**
The Short-billed gull (previously known as Mew gull) (Larus brachyrhynchus) are common along the Pacific coast, but can be found inland in Alaska during the summer where they breed. Gulls often get a bad reputation amongst the general population, however they are quite intelligent and ecologically important! They are scavengers, so are responsible for consuming foods that would otherwise be wasted. They’re also known for eating insects, thus acting as natural pest control for farmers. They’re incredibly adaptable, so if any particular food item is running low they can easily switch to another. This keeps prey populations in check without over exploitation. Gulls have extremely socially complex creatures with a huge number of observed communication behaviors and calls.
This piece is displayed in a hand built solid wood frame. Glazing is museum quality anti-glare and UV-resistant glass.
Please note: The shipping is set at $50 and is an estimate. If additional shipping fees are required, they will be billed separately.
