Bombus franklini - California Poppies with Franklin's Bumblebee - Hand Embellished Limited Edition
Limited Edition prints are hand embellished by the artist to enhance the texture and depth of these remarkable pieces. Embroidery is added to selected locations where it will best highlight the details within the piece. These prints are limited to only 50 total. As these are made-to-order, please allow 1-2 weeks to ship.
The lovely Franklin's bumblebee (Bombus franklini) is distinguished from other species by its solid black abdomen, and yellow coloration on the thorax that extends below the wings. This species has the narrowest distribution of all bumblebees - it is found only in the western US between southern Oregon and northern California. The last sighting of this critically endangered bee was in Oregon in 2006. It was listed on the California Endangered Species act in 2019 thanks to the combined efforts of the Xerxes Society, Defenders of Wildlife, and Center for Food Safety. It is pictured here among a superbloom of California poppies (Eschscholzia californica) - what I can only imagine would be the best possible setting for them.
